So just before my due date, I had gone for a final hair trim… I had my bangs tidied up and some soft layers added in my long locks. It had taken me over four years to grow my hair to this length.
However since the arrival of baby, my long hair was mostly tied back or bundled up out of the way. My long, silky locks had turned limp, tangled and frazzled with the lack of care and attention.
After a couple of months of my hair just being there but not really being there, I decided to take the plunge and go for it…
Behold, this is me going for the big chop!
When I told the hairdresser what I wanted, her immediate response was “Wha-- are you sure? It must have taken you years to grow your hair this long!”. She was quite apprehensive and repeatedly asked me if I was absolutely sure I wanted to crop it all off. I was just all cool and nonchalant and told her to dive in.
Throughout the session, she kept checking and asking to make sure she wasn’t cutting it too short. “You are so brave!” she said. I told her “It’s really okay. Hair will always grow back!”.
Despite the constant annoying checks and questions (I prefer my haircut sessions to be quiet and relaxing) she did a pretty good job.

I feel so liberated after shedding my long locks and am totally loving this fresh new look on me.
The pixie cut a.k.a. boy cut… do you dare?

DeleteThat's quite a plunge and not just leap of faith that the haircut will turn out fine and you look great with it. The furthest I've gone is a cropped bob.

DeleteLove it! I did the same thing after I had my daughter. it was falling out, so I chopped it really short, it was so much easier to maintain :)

DeleteYou totally rock that pixie cut! I cut my long hair off when Baby #1 was about 1 - I didn't go quite as short as you though, settled for a bob. ;-)

DeleteYou look fantastic! I know what you mean about hair being there but not really being there (and about preferring salon sessions to be quiet and relaxing!). I have quite long hair that I tie back all the time. I have been thinking over the last few months about chopping it off but it's been long for 15 years and I just don't know if I'm as brave as that! You're lucky because your hair looks good long and short :)
ReplyDeleteIf you've been toying with the idea for a while now, maybe you are ready to chop it off and start again! But 15 years is a long time, so maybe don't go all the way but take it back step by step. I remember the very first time I had my haircut as a girl (my mum insisted on t because it was getting so messy) I cried as the hairdresser snipped my long locks off... so do brace yourself!

DeleteLooks fabulous! If you have the texture for it, short hair is so hip and cool. I chopped mine off at the beginning of the year post-baby too but now 8 months later it's in the in between stage and is just pissing me off. Time to get out the straightener I think ;)
ReplyDeleteYup... it's the in between stage that sometimes makes me regret going short. Though I've come across a few posts on pinterest on how to grow out sort hair gracefully which I'm going to try out once I decide to grow this one out.

DeleteWow, so rock 'n' roll, looks great! I sometimes think I wouldn't mind going short, but my ears stick out so I use my long hair for coverage; it'd take a genius of a hairstylist to find a short style that works on me.
