So just before my due date, I had gone for a final hair trim… I had my bangs tidied up and some soft layers added in my long locks. It had taken me over four years to grow my hair to this length.
However since the arrival of baby, my long hair was mostly tied back or bundled up out of the way. My long, silky locks had turned limp, tangled and frazzled with the lack of care and attention.
After a couple of months of my hair just being there but not really being there, I decided to take the plunge and go for it…
Behold, this is me going for the big chop!
When I told the hairdresser what I wanted, her immediate response was “Wha-- are you sure? It must have taken you years to grow your hair this long!”. She was quite apprehensive and repeatedly asked me if I was absolutely sure I wanted to crop it all off. I was just all cool and nonchalant and told her to dive in.
Throughout the session, she kept checking and asking to make sure she wasn’t cutting it too short. “You are so brave!” she said. I told her “It’s really okay. Hair will always grow back!”.
Despite the constant annoying checks and questions (I prefer my haircut sessions to be quiet and relaxing) she did a pretty good job.
Voila! Presenting my new summer look
I feel so liberated after shedding my long locks and am totally loving this fresh new look on me.
The pixie cut a.k.a. boy cut… do you dare?

wow, that is a HUGE chop! But it looks *fantastic* on you! What a great cut! I'm sure it's much easier to manage too! -Aroha
ReplyDeleteThanks, Aroha! I'm so glad it turned out looking so well. And yes, definitely much easier to manage
DeleteThat's quite a plunge and not just leap of faith that the haircut will turn out fine and you look great with it. The furthest I've gone is a cropped bob.
ReplyDelete'A leap of faith'... an apt description indeed! Yeah, I'm really glad it turned out looking great. Well everyone has their preference for what they are willing to risk at the hairdresser! As long as it looks god ^_^
DeleteLove it! I did the same thing after I had my daughter. it was falling out, so I chopped it really short, it was so much easier to maintain :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you can relate, Eleise! Yup, and it feels so much better too, especially with the warm weather coming :)
DeleteLove your hair, love the snap shot!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Appreciate the compliment!
DeleteThat is a fab cut! Go you for taking the plunge!
ReplyDeleteAlways glad to get compliments which makes me certain I did the right thing I did the right thing! Thanks for stopping by ^_^
DeleteYou totally rock that pixie cut! I cut my long hair off when Baby #1 was about 1 - I didn't go quite as short as you though, settled for a bob. ;-)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from #TeamIBOT - just call me Xena, Warrior Princess!
Hello Janet! Thanks for popping in to say hi. Hmmm... maybe there's a pattern to going for a new hairdo/makeover whenever our babies go through a major milestone. Let's see what happens when this baby turns 1 too!
DeleteIt looks amazing. Great cut for summer. Good on you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie! I definitely had summer in mind when I decided on this cut.
DeleteThis hair cut looks lovely on you, you have a great shaped face. Unfortunately I have a long face and I think it would look terrible on me :(
ReplyDeleteJudging from your profile pic, I think you can definitely carry a fairly wide variety of hair styles. But just go with whatever style you feel comfortable wearing and feels like 'you' ^_^
DeleteI've just done exactly this and I love it! Your cut is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa. I'm still in my new-haircut high mode so it's awesome to hear how great it looks :)
DeleteYou look fantastic! I know what you mean about hair being there but not really being there (and about preferring salon sessions to be quiet and relaxing!). I have quite long hair that I tie back all the time. I have been thinking over the last few months about chopping it off but it's been long for 15 years and I just don't know if I'm as brave as that! You're lucky because your hair looks good long and short :)
ReplyDeleteIf you've been toying with the idea for a while now, maybe you are ready to chop it off and start again! But 15 years is a long time, so maybe don't go all the way but take it back step by step. I remember the very first time I had my haircut as a girl (my mum insisted on t because it was getting so messy) I cried as the hairdresser snipped my long locks off... so do brace yourself!
DeleteWow what a change but you totally rock it - I think you have to have a beautiful face and great head shape to rock a pixie, and you have both!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily. I never considered my face and head shape to be beautiful... must be the great haircut that just accentuates everything ^_^
DeleteLooks fabulous! If you have the texture for it, short hair is so hip and cool. I chopped mine off at the beginning of the year post-baby too but now 8 months later it's in the in between stage and is just pissing me off. Time to get out the straightener I think ;)
ReplyDeleteYup... it's the in between stage that sometimes makes me regret going short. Though I've come across a few posts on pinterest on how to grow out sort hair gracefully which I'm going to try out once I decide to grow this one out.
DeleteGood on you! I regularly go short every few years, but I'm growing it long at the moment. I have just gone blonde for summer though :)
ReplyDeleteIt requires some tenacity and patience to grow a short cut out. So I guess you're reaping the benefits now of sticking through growing it out! Have fun being blonde this summer!
DeleteWow, so rock 'n' roll, looks great! I sometimes think I wouldn't mind going short, but my ears stick out so I use my long hair for coverage; it'd take a genius of a hairstylist to find a short style that works on me.
ReplyDeleteI think short hair would definitely suit your style, Evelyn. But you are right, it's important to find the right hairstylist, one you can truly trust, who would make it rock on you.
