“When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand
pieces and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.
And now when every new baby is born its first laugh becomes a fairy.
So there ought to be one fairy for every boy or girl”
(J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan)
Grace’s laugh captured on camera for the first time (circa 3 months old) |
Is there anything in the world that sounds more magical than a baby’s first gurgly gummy laugh?
If this fairy resembled the little baby’s laugh that brought her into being, I imagine she would be light and sparkly and love dancing and bouncing on teeny tiny twinkly toes.
Some things that get a chuckle out of little Grace...
- Being held up to bounce up and down on her little feet
- Big brother blowing raspberry kisses on her tummy
- Getting butterfly kisses under her chin and neck
- Playing “This little piggy” with mummy on her teeny toesies
- Being tickled at just the right spot on her chubby belly (only daddy knows where)
- Mummy singing “chicken drumsticks and charsiu bao” while pumping her chunky drumstick thighs and patting her plump squishy bum
Everyone in the family just enjoys finding new ways to push Grace’s giggle button.

I love when babies laugh, such a gorgeous sound!
ReplyDeleteI know! Can't get enough of it. One little laugh makes up for all the tears.
DeleteWhen K was little she would get out of bed and put on videos to watch until we came through in the morning. We would often lie in bed and listen to her laughing in the loungeroom - there definitely isn't a nice sound except maybe a childs really good belly laugh !!!
ReplyDeleteHave the best day !
Me
Aaahhh... I love a good belly laugh myself... the ones that go so hard until it hurts. It's wonderful to have kids to find more excuses to indulge in a good laugh every day.
DeleteThat quote is perfect isn't it? You put it so well!
ReplyDeleteHey there, Kate. Yes, I love the quote and the book that it came from too!
DeleteThat is such a precious and priceless photo. Love the J,M Barrie quote and I totally agree ... there is nothing more magical than hearing a baby laugh :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lizzy... it is a lovely quote. I think of it every time I hear my children laughing. Hope you're having a magical day where you are!
DeleteOh I miss those days. My own little giggle bunnies are now 19 and 17, how time flies!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from #TeamIBOT xxx
Thanks for stopping by, Janet. 19 and 17! I can't imagine my own babies at that age. But I know it will come someday
DeleteHow cute! The chicken drumsticks song sounds like a great song! :)
ReplyDeletehehehe... it's a very simple song. I came up with it on a whim one day because my baby's chunky thighs remind me of plump chicken drumsticks, and her cute round bum of fluffy charsiu bao!
DeleteSimple songs are the best!
DeleteNaw theres nothing cuter than those early giggles! I loved finding the giggle spot on my wee bubbas
ReplyDeleteYup! And those giggle spots are in so much abundance the littler they are
DeleteGorgeous!!! I do love babies :-) and I will always remember where I was when my daughter gave her first giggle. Such precious memories!
ReplyDeleteThe baby years are so fleeting. Sigh. At least we have the memories to carry through for always
DeleteOh the sound of a giggle, it's just worth bottling isn't it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! This post is kind of my way of 'bottling' a little piece of that magic
DeleteI think a baby's laugh is probably the best sound in the world. I managed to capture one of Zee's first laughs on film and it is the best.
ReplyDeleteHow great that you managed to capture it on film. I find it so elusive sometimes to capture such precious moments on video... the first time magic kind of disappears and the video is basically of us repeating "do it again! one more time" and getting just a cheeky grin in response
DeleteOh doesn't it just melt you're heart when they giggle if only we could bottle it! She is scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could! Such a pity that unlike Peter Pan, all kids grow up. Well hopefully this post helps to preserve a little of that magic in some way
DeleteWhat a gorgeous photo - I can literally hear her laughing just looking at it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Her laugh sounds just like she looks.
DeleteOh what a doll she is! She is just divine. I want to squish her little cheeks. Such a beautiful quote too and post.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Renee. I squish her cheeks every day. And chomp them too
DeleteI think so too! ^_^ thanks for stopping by to say hi
ReplyDeleteNothing better than the sound of a babies laugh. It's just the most amazing thing.
