Before we get further into 2018, I must take a few moments to marvel over how big my Christmas baby has grown.
Seven years to be exact.
Just look at that!
I’m already getting teary just looking at that picture.
But let’s not get into all that now.
First let me show you the awesome birthday cake I made for my birthday boy when we celebrated his birthday last month.
He had asked for a Lego Nexo Knights cake. After trolling Pinterest for a bit, I came up with this version of a chocolate knight’s castle cake. The embellishments were created with the aid of the printer, laminator and my trusty washi tape kit.
Next to the goodie bags, the birthday cake was probably the biggest job I had to do. Because this year, Nathan specifically requested the most chilled out birthday party ever.
Nathan: “Just three of my bestest friends…”
Grace: “But what about MEEE????”
Nathan: “Of course you’ll be there… you are always there!”
Grace: “Okay! Good.”
The party itinerary consisted of a play at our local swimming centre, followed by lunch at Nathan’s favourite sushi train restaurant. Then afterwards at home, the kids enjoyed some more Lego play time and watched a Lego movie together.
The goodie bags were filled with an assortment of colourful Lego bricks, balloons and a few favourite sweet treats.
All those elements came together to make ‘The Best Party Ever’ – according to the birthday boy. I suppose it’s his opinion that counts the most. So I can tick this simple chilled-out party off as a success. ✌
One morning after his birthday, Nathan woke up and came right over to tell me…
“Mummy, I feel ‘big’ today!”
“Oh? Really?”
“Yes, I really feel like I’m seven now.”
“So how does it feel to be seven?”
“It feels like I’m so much bigger. And much stronger too!”
I look at this ‘big’ boy and see his twinkling eyes smiling at me. Only in those eyes I can still see the same happy chappy we’ve always had. He’s still there inside all that big boyness that he’s grown into.
It’s this same big hearted chap that patiently teaches his little sister to play checkers and sometimes waits long-sufferingly for a break in one of her tantrums to get a word in. He writes love notes when he notices mummy or daddy having a tough day or sometimes just because. He’s the kind of friend that will set up his friend’s school desk with their chair and pencil pot in the morning just to give him a nice surprise. He generously spends all his Sunday school stamps on gift shop day to buy presents for everyone in the family.
That’s the kind of treasure he is.
Happy birthday again, my big boy.
I love you more every day!
